I am now sickened every time I see that headline and I just feel such compassion for this young woman. She was thrown into the public eye at a young age and was pulled in every direction by someone who needed her to make money for them. She lived and died (metaphorically speaking) through an all-too-public relationship then, breakup with another young star, Justin Timberlake.
She said on Primetime with Dianne Sawyer in 2003 that all she ever really wanted was to be a wife and mom and live a simple life. She spoke of how she hoped to meet a good man and settle down within a couple of years. She spoke about how the world wanted her to be a good example to their children. I am in no way condoning anything she has done but is this really her responsibility? I thought this was the parents' job.
She became a wife and a mom shortly after but that wasn't good enough for the world. Now she was deemed an unfit parent and a nuisance to society. The man she married wasn't good enough. She got pregnant too soon after the first, she put her career on hold, she staged a comeback to quickly, she divorced the man the world should she should never have married and now she is the bad guy for it. TV anchors laugh at her and photographers take picture of her even as she leaves in an ambulance. To those who would do this to her: Are you people human? Do you feel any compassion? What do you want from this one woman; her fame, her fortune, her life?
She has been hissed at, spit at, and one public official even said she would shoot her if she had been given the chance! She was expected to be a savior to the country's adolescent teen girls and was chastised when she didn't fit the mold the world was looking for. Everything she has ever done has been critiqued and ridiculed. The child has no life. She is someone who everyone else wants a piece of.
What started this rant in my mind?
I went to check my email today and that is when I saw this picture. This girl has to hold her children through a magazine. She has to touch their face through news print and before anybody says she deserves it let me remind you that none of deserved what Christ did for us on that cross. We all deserved to die because of our sin but He loved us enough to not allow that to happen.
Has Britney made bad choices? Yes! Who hasn't?
I'm quite sure at this point most tabloids have succeeded in making her feel like an unfit parent and now she probably believes what has been said all along. She is self destructing because she does not like herself. She is no longer that sweet, fun, coming-of-age girl we all knew and loved years ago.
Hollywood and tabloids created this person, the one she is trying to escape from.
I for one and tired of this happening to people. I commit to pray for her, her babies, and the rest of her family on a daily basis. She does not deserve this. She can't walk into a store without hundreds of flashes going off in her face. Her photographs sell for thousands of dollars and the more controversial the higher the price they are willing to pay.
She is in the hospital once again. She was rushed there last night and is going through a mental evaluation. All I can do is think, "God, please take care of her and please send people to her who truly love her and not just want something from her. She needs friends. She needs you, God!"
If you would like to commit to praying for Britney please let me know. No one deserves to go through this. God loves her just as much as He loves us. His heart breaks with every day that passes and she is still in this mess.
Hang in there, Britney. Hang in there.

She Speaks, I Speak, We Should All Speak
I came across the most wonderful news on Lysa TerKeurst's blog today. She says,
"I am excited to announce that today is the first official day of registrations for the 2008 She Speaks conference. And I am offering an opportunity to WIN A SCHOLARSHIP"
The She Speaks conference is for speakers, writers and women’s ministry leaders to improve and learn new skills and to form lasting bonds with women from around the country. Some of the speakers will be:
- Lysa TerKeurst
- Amy Carroll
- Glynnis Whitwer
- Tracie Miles
- Mary Ann Ruff
- Rachel Olsen

- Wendy Pope
- Bill Jensen
- Shannon from Rocks in my Dryer
- Sophie from Boo Mama
- Melanie from Big Mama
- Susanne Scheppmann
- Shari Braendel
- Zoe Elmore
- Luann Prater
- Micca Campbell
- Marybeth Whalen
- Melanie Chitwood
- Shari Braendel
I have been a leader in a women's ministry, I have been a youth leader, I have seen too many hurting women, young and old. I am and have been one. I have a desire to encourage them; to show them how valuable they are. I love writing. I love speaking. It is usually hard for me to make friends (I tend to be very shy in person) and I hate traveling and especially alone but I am willing to do it to go to this conference.
Can you tell that I want to go?
I do. Life isn't getting any longer and I am tired of just being a spectator. I'm ready to run that second mile. I want to finish this race and finish it well. I know that Lysa and this team of women over at Proverbs 31 Ministries can help me to do that.
I know that all of the things that I have gone through in my life: addict parents, a child with dwarfism, an abusive marriage, almost losing a child, a devestating divorce, getting over myself, and most of all the happy beginning to the end that I now have can serve as a testimony to someone. I want to know how to do that effectively.
I would love to be considered for this scholarship but even if I am not chosen, I do pray for the lives and ministries of all who do attend to be changed forever.
Thank you to Lysa and to all of the ladies at Proverbs 31 Ministries for providing such a wonderful conference. You all work so hard and you deserve a pat on the back! :o)

That "Boy-Bathroom" Situation
I guess it is no secret that boys have issues with aiming. And we know moms will usually make this observation early in the morning when she is half asleep, if you know what I mean...
I for one got real tired of having to shower before coffee so I found a solution. The guilty party would have to clean, scrub, rinse and repeat the process in the bathroom every time he was found guilty. Hmmm, but how do we find this culprit? A-ha! I had an idea.
Since my boys have a bad habit of leaving the door open during private time I decided to use that opportunity to find the culprit and at the same time teach them a lesson about not shutting the door. So, I began to follow them anytime it looked like they might be going for a visit with the porcelain throne. There was number 2 (child not uh, never mind). Jacob had gone in and come out before I could attempt to peek but I went in afterwards to inspect the commode. It was clean and I had even heard him drop the seat. What a great kid!
Later on number 1 kid, Gevan, goes in for the kill. BAM! He shut the door! Oh my! My baby is growing up! He actually shut the door. *sigh When he came out he saw the look on my face and said, "Mom, are you OK?" I could only giggle and breathe a sigh of relief as I realized that he too had left the commode clean. That leaves only one person....
He is all smiles and giggles no matter what. He is the "baby" of the family. He is so cute and cuddly and always so sweet. "Mom, you are so pretty and you are the best mom in this house!" (hey, you can't have it all!) He couldn't possibly be the one to do such a thing, not my baby!
So, I followed him just as I had with his brothers before him. He caught me following and even turned to smile. "Awe!", I thought to myself. So he goes in. I don't hear the seat go up but I do hear splashing so I peek in.... GASP! As his eyes dance around to everything in the room EXCEPT the commode I yell to him, "Brennan!"
As he turns the steady stream follows, on to the floor, the wall, the rug. And he smiles. "Mom! You can't come in here!"
I decided right then and there that I would no longer be pushed around by a 6 year old. Mom got tough and Brennan got to work.

Altered Composition Note Books, Journals, Scrapbooks
I originally got this idea from my friend, Ginger. She had an altered composition notebook and a pen to match. I loved it! I had to have one and so I made one for myself.... and have been making them ever since!
This is a really great gift idea and it cost under $5 for the notebook, calendar, purse notebook, and pen. The materials I bought were all from the $1 tree! Mrs. Elizabeth's paper packs come with enough coordinated papers for the entire set and you will have some left over.
You can turn this:

More examples of aletered composition notebooks can be found here, here, here, and here. Also, if you are interested in making a prayer journal, visit this post over at Trish's blog.
